Professional Designations

BOMA Georgia partners with the BOMI International to offer a variety of professional designations for property managers, facility managers and building engineers.

Throughout the commercial property industry, a BOMI designation is recognized as a mark of distinction; an emblem of achievement backed by BOMI’s more than 40 years of excellence in developing and offering advanced education programs.

Whichever of the four professional designations you pursue—the Real Property Administrator (RPA), the Facilities Management Administrator (FMA), the Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT), or the Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA)—you can be assured you will receive field-proven, time-tested courses that will help you meet the demands of an increasingly complex profession with confidence and success.

BOMA Georgia is offering BOMI’s new High-Performance (HP) Program courses for students who wish to enhance their RPA or FMA designations as RPA | HP or FMA | HP. Students with the HP designation will have an in-depth understanding of how to define, initiate, pay for, complete and obtain a return on investment for sustainable initiatives within all segments of a building or portfolio.

Each year, BOMA Georgia offers courses that qualify for credit toward each designation. To see what classes are being offered in the coming months, please visit the event calendar.

Real Property Administrator Designation

The Real Property Administrator (RPA®) designation program serves the educational needs of both third-party property managers and corporate property managers. Courses leading to an RPA cover every aspect of property management, from the basics of building design, operation and maintenance, to the specialized areas of commercial property law and risk management, marketing and asset management. Through this program, property managers learn to maximize the net income of any property, be it one building or an entire portfolio.

To earn the RPA designation, you must complete seven mandatory courses, plus one elective course. Students do not have to take the courses in any specific order. However, if you are new to the curriculum, you may consider beginning with subject matter you are already familiar with and save new material for later study. This will ensure immediate success in your professional development. To learn more about RPA details and course requirements, click on the button below.

To earn the FMA designation, you must complete seven mandatory courses, plus one elective course. Students do not have to take the courses in any specific order. However, if you are new to the curriculum, you may consider beginning with subject matter you are already familiar with and save new material for later study. Systems Maintenance Technician

The Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT®) designation program provides today's technicians with the skills that will help them stand out as top performers, the kind who can raise a building's efficiency while reducing operating costs. The SMT program covers every major building operating system, from HVAC to plumbing to electrical to overall control systems.

The SMT designation includes five required courses specific to operating systems. Students do not have to take the courses in any specific order.  However, if you are new to the curriculum, you may consider beginning with subject matter you are already familiar with and save new material for later study. This will ensure immediate success in your professional development. To learn more about SMT details and course requirements, click on the button below.

The Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA®) program further distinguishes professionals with the advanced knowledge required to run a sound, efficient, cost-effective maintenance department. Building on the SMT designation with additional courses on administration, energy management and environmental health and safety issues, the SMA program helps prepare maintenance professionals for a career in facilities management.

To earn the SMA designation, you must complete all five SMT courses and three additional courses, which address the broad issues of concern to systems administrators. Students do not have to take the courses in any specific order. However, if you are new to the curriculum, you may consider beginning with subject matter you are already familiar with and save new material for later study. This will ensure immediate success in your professional development. To learn more about SMA details and course requirements, click on the button below.

Students who enroll and pass all three courses in the program will earn the new BOMI-HP designation.
